DDP, DDU or Port-to-Port?

Port-to-port: international freight ends at the agreed Canadian port.

DDU / DAP: transport is arranged to destination while the buyer normally handles import duties and taxes under the agreed terms.

DDP: a more complete landed solution in which customs, duties, taxes and delivery responsibilities must be clearly confirmed before shipment.

The importer of record, tax treatment and compliance responsibilities must be verified for every DDP quotation.

Canadian Import Compliance

Canada Customs Clearance

Commercial imports into Canada require accurate classification, valuation, origin information and importer details. Commodity-specific permits, certificates or other government requirements may apply.

Canada’s CARM system is used for commercial import accounting and payment. Importers seeking Release Prior to Payment must meet current CBSA enrolment and financial-security requirements.

GST and Duties

Imported goods are generally subject to 5% GST and may also be subject to customs duty. Duty depends on tariff classification, origin and customs value.

CARM Registration

Commercial importers should maintain their CARM Client Portal registration and delegate authority where a customs broker is used.

Importer of Record

The responsible importer must be confirmed before booking, especially for DDP shipments and non-resident importer arrangements.

Regulated Cargo

Food, wood packaging, chemicals, electronics, vehicles and other goods may require additional agency review or documents.

Prepare Before Shipping

Documents for Shipping to Canada

Document requirements vary by product, but most commercial shipments should prepare the basic trade and transport information before pickup or container loading.

BRF SHIPPING can review consistency between invoice, packing list, booking information and customs data. Final legal responsibility remains with the relevant exporter and importer.

Frequently Asked Questions

China to Canada Shipping FAQ

How long does shipping from China to Canada take?

Ocean freight commonly takes about 14–42 days port-to-port depending on the gateway and service. Air freight is often about 3–8 days. Pickup, customs and inland delivery add time.

Should I use FCL or LCL shipping?

FCL is often suitable for larger, heavier or more sensitive shipments. LCL is practical for smaller volumes, but consolidation, deconsolidation and local charges should be included when comparing total cost.

Can BRF SHIPPING collect from several Chinese suppliers?

Yes. We can arrange pickup, receive goods at a China warehouse, consolidate cargo, repack or palletize when agreed, and ship the combined cargo to Canada.

Do you deliver to Toronto, Calgary or other inland cities?

Yes. Containers and consolidated cargo can move from Canadian gateways by rail and truck to Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa and other suitable destinations.

How much GST applies to imports into Canada?

Commercial goods imported into Canada are generally subject to 5% GST, with possible customs duties and other taxes or measures depending on the product, origin, value and destination. Confirm the treatment for the specific shipment.

What is CARM?

CARM is the CBSA system for commercial import accounting and payment. Canadian importers should register and manage their account, delegation and any Release Prior to Payment requirements.

Can you provide DDP shipping to Canada?

DDP may be available after confirming the cargo, importer-of-record arrangement, customs compliance, duties, GST and delivery address. These responsibilities must be agreed in writing before shipment.

What information is needed for a quotation?

Send the Chinese pickup location, Canadian destination, cargo description, HS code if known, package count, dimensions, gross weight, total CBM, cargo-ready date and preferred Incoterm.
